A resident or native of Serbia.
Member of Yugoslavia's largest ethnic group, found mainly in Serbia, but also in the neighboring independent republics of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia. Their language is generally recognized to be the same as Croat and is hence known as Serbo-Croatian.
The Serbs are predominantly Greek Orthodox Christians and write in a Cyrillic script. Although they are closely related linguistically to the Croats, there are cultural differences and long-standing enmities, which resurfaced with the outbreak of civil war 1991. In the province of Kosovo, the Serbs are in conflict with Yugoslavian Albanians, who comprise the majority.
