Breed of small gundog developed in Britain for hunting woodcock (hence its name). It stands about 40 cm/15 in tall and weighs about 14 kg/30 lb. The American cocker is recognized as distinct from the English breed but both have a long, dense coat, which may be a solid color (red, gold, black) or bi-colored (black and white).
