T(homas) (1904-1979) US novelist and short-story writer. His naturalistic documentary of the Depression, the Studs Lonigan trilogy 1932–35 comprising Young Lonigan, The Young Manhood of Studs Lonigan, and Judgment Day, describes the development of a young Catholic man in Chicago after World War I, and was written from his own experience. The Face of Time 1953 is one of his finest works.

Suzanne 1945- American dancer

(1938-) English architect. He works in a Postmodern idiom, largely for corporate clients seeking an alternative to the rigors of Modernist or High Tech office blocks. His Embankment Place scheme 1991 sits theatrically on top of Charing Cross station in Westminster, London, and has been likened to a giant jukebox. Alban Gate in the City of London 1992 is a continuation of the language but is more towerlike in form.
Farrell's style is robust and eclectic, and he is not afraid to make jokes in architecture, such as the gaily painted giant egg cups that adorn the parapet of his TV AM building in Camden, London, 1981–82. Other works include studios for Limehouse Productions, Henley Royal Regatta HQ, and the Craft Council Galleries.

J(ames) G(ordon) (1935-1979) English historical novelist. His work includes Troubles 1970, set in Ireland, and The Siege of Krishnapur 1973.
