Town in Castilla-León, central Spain;
Thread, fertilizer, and chemicals are produced. It has a Roman aqueduct with 118 arches in current use, and the Moorish alcázar (fortress) was the palace of the monarchs of Castile. Isabella of Castile was crowned here 1474.

(1893-1987) Spanish virtuoso guitarist. He transcribed J S Bach for guitar and Ponce, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, de Falla, and Villa-Lobos composed some of their best-known music for him. Segovia's artistry did much to rehabilitate the guitar as a concert instrument and to promote the music of Spain. He taught lutenist Julian Bream and guitarist John Williams.
