(1927-) US opera singer. She played a leading singing role in Ira Gershwin’s revival of his musical Porgy and Bess 1952–54. Gaining a national reputation, she made her operatic debut in San Francisco 1957. She appeared at La Scala in Milan 1959 and became a regular member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York 1961.
Price was born in Laurel, Mississippi, and educated at Central State College in Ohio. She was trained as a soprano at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.

(1911-) US actor who made his film debut in 1938 after a stage career. He is remembered for Laura 1944 and Leave Her To Heaven 1945 before becoming a star of horror films, including Dragonwick 1946, House of Wax 1953, the cult favorite The Tingler 1959, The Fall of the House of Usher 1960, and five more Roger Corman “campy” horrors through 1964. He is noted for hosting TV’s Mystery series.
With his resonant voice, suavity of manner, and capacity for flamboyant gesture, Price became the actor most readily associated with the horror genre in the 1960s and 1970s. More recently he appeared in The Whales of August 1987, and Edward Scissorhands 1991, in which he played a gentler character than those of his earlier career.
