An oil used for illuminating purposes, formerly obtained from the distillation of mineral wax, bituminous shale; now produced by the distillation and purification of petroleum.
Thin oil obtained from the distillation of petroleum; a highly refined form is used in jet aircraft fuel. Kerosene is a mixture of hydrocarbons of the paraffin series.
