In Greek mythology, daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and sister of Orestes and Iphigenia. Her hatred of her mother for murdering her father and her desire for revenge, fulfilled by the return of her brother Orestes, made her the subject of tragedies by the Greek dramatists Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. In Euripides' tragedy she joins with Orestes in killing Clytemnestra.

In both plays Electra is devastated by the murder of her father Agamemnon at the hands of her mother Clytemnestra. With the help of her brother, Orestes, she takes her revenge, killing Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus.
