A dance for two people (usually a ballerina and a danseur noble); SYN. duet.
Dance for two performers. Codified by Marius Petipa into the grand pas de deux, the dance opens with the ballerina and her male partner dancing together. It continues with display solos, firstly for the man and then the woman, and ends with the two dancing together again.
