A displacement of a part (especially a bone) from its normal position (as in the shoulder or the vertebral column).
Displacement of bones meeting at a joint. It causes pain, swelling, loss of function and deformity. Treatment is by manipulation, that may require a local or general anesthetic.
The shoulder and elbow are common sites of dislocation. There may be associated fractures.
