The act of checking or adjusting (by comparison with a standard) the accuracy of a measuring instrument; SYN. standardization, standardisation.
The comparison of transducer voltage outputs against the outputs of a reference standard.
The preparation of a usable scale on a measuring instrument. A mercury thermometer, for example, can be calibrated with a Celsius scale by noting the heights of the mercury column at two standard temperatures—the freezing point (0şC) and boiling point (100şC) of water—and dividing the distance between them into 100 equal parts and continuing these divisions above and below.
