(1939-1992) Australian painter. He achieved international recognition in 1961 with exhibitions in London, the purchase of his Untitled Red by the Tate Gallery, London (the youngest ever painter to be so honored), and the award of the Paris Biennale Prix International. During his London period he produced a set of paintings and drawings based on the murderer, John Christie. He is also known for landscapes, such as the Lavender Bay series which includes The Balcony 1975 (Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney) and The Jacaranda Tree which won the 1977 Wynne Prize. In 1977–78 he became the first artist to win the Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman prizes.
