(1912-1988) Australian novelist and biographer. Her novels include Tiburon 1935, set in rural New South Wales and showing the narrow-mindedness of small-town life, The Battlers 1941, about the struggles of a band of unemployed itinerants, and All the Proud Tribesmen 1959, winner of the 1960 Children’s Book Award. She was made an AO in 1980.
