(1922-) US cartoonist. His idea for the Peanuts cartoon strip was accepted by United Features Syndicate 1950. As the characters Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Linus became famous throughout the country, Schulz further promoted them through merchandise lines and television specials. In 1967 a musical based on the “Peanuts” characters, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, played on Broadway.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Schulz gained his only formal training through a correspondence course with the Minneapolis Art Institute. He joined the staff of the St Paul Pioneer Press 1948.
