1st Earl of Leven (c. 1580-1661) Scottish general in the English Civil War. He led the Covenanters' army which invaded England in 1640, commanded the Scottish army sent to aid the English Puritans in 1643–46, and shared in the Parliamentarians' victory over the Royalists in the Battle of Marston Moor.

Loch, Lake in Tayside Region, Scotland; area 16 sq km/6 sq mi. It is drained by the river Leven, and has seven islands; Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned 1567–68 on Castle Island. It has been a national nature reserve since 1964. Leven is also the name of a sea loch in Strathclyde, Scotland.
