(ald William) (1937-) Australian middle- and long-distance runner. he broke 17 world records, ranging from 2 miles to the one-hour run.
The first man to break 13 minutes for the 3 miles 1966, he was also the first to better 28 minutes for the 10,000 meters. Despite his record-breaking achievements, he never won a gold medal at a major championship.

(1846-1881) Australian writer. Born in London, he went to Australia when he was 18 and worked as a journalist in Victoria. He wrote For the Term of his Natural Life 1874, a novel dealing with life in the early Australian prison settlements.

(Harry) (1940-) British Conservative politician. A cabinet minister from 1985, he held the posts of education secretary 1990–92 and home secretary 1992–93. He succeeded Norman Lamont as chancellor of the Exchequer May 1993, bringing to the office a more open and combative approach.

(1659-1707) English composer. Organist at St Paul’s, he composed “The Prince of Denmark’s March”, a harpsichord piece that was arranged by Henry Wood as a “Trumpet Voluntary” and wrongly attributed to Purcell.
