Adopted name of Derek van den Bogaerde (1921-)
English actor. He appeared in comedies and adventure films such as Doctor in the House 1954 and Campbell’s Kingdom 1957, before acquiring international recognition for complex roles in Joseph Losey’s The Servant 1963 and Accident 1967, and Luchino Visconti’s Death in Venice 1971. His other films include A Bridge Too Far 1977.
He has also written autobiographical books and novels including A Postillion Struck by Lightning 1977 and Backcloth 1986.
