(1511-1592) Italian Mannerist sculptor and architect. He was influenced by Michelangelo and Andrea Sansovino. His most noted sculpture is the Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence, 1560–75. He built the rusticated garden façade of the Palazzo Pitti, Florence, 1560 and the graceful bridge of Sta Trinitŕ, Florence, completed 1570 (destroyed 1944 but rebuilt).
Ammanati rivaled Vasari as a Mannerist architect.
