Veštačko maslo, pravi se od smeše prečišćenog goveđeg loja, svinjske masti, nekog biljnog ulja (sezamova zejtina) i oplavljenog mleka, ukusno je i hranljivo kao i prirodno maslo, samo što ne sadrži vitamina; danas se izrađuje više vrsta margarina, od kojih se nekim dodaju i vitamini.

A spread made chiefly from vegetable oils and used as a substitute for butter; SYN. margarin, oleo, oleomargarine, marge.
Butter substitute made from animal fats and/or vegetable oils.
The French chemist Hippolyte Mčge-Mouries invented margarine 1889. Today, margarines are usually made with vegetable oils, such as soy, corn, or sunflower oil, giving a product low in saturated fats (see polyunsaturate) and fortified with vitamins A and D.
