(1955-) French race-car driver who was world champion 198198198and 199and the first French world drivers' champion. To the end of the 19season he had won Grand Prix from 1starts. He retired 1993.
He raced in Formula One events from 19and had his first Grand Prix win 19(French GP) driving a Renault. In 19he began driving for the McLaren team. He moved to Ferrari in 19for two years but was without a drive at the start of the 19season. He drove for Williams in 19winning his fourth world championship before finally retiring at the end of the season. He is known as “the Professor”.
