In Christian theology, the doctrine that Jesus suffered on the cross to bring about reconciliation and forgiveness between God and humanity.
Atonement is an action that enables a person separated from God by sin to be reconciled (at one) with him. In ancient Judaism this was achieved through the sacrificial killing of animals.
conciliation

The act or process of conciliating; the state of being conciliated.
Process of helping the parties in a dispute to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. In industrial relations, a practice whereby the two sides in a dispute seek to resolve it with the help of a third, disinterested party. ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) provides a conciliation service.

In a river, the volume of water passing a certain point per unit of time. It is usually expressed in cubic meters per second (cumecs). The discharge of a particular river channel may be calculated by multiplying the channel's cross-sectional area (in square meters) by the velocity of the water (in meters per second).
