(Lucio) (1678-1741) Italian Baroque composer, violinist, and conductor. He wrote 23 symphonies; 75 sonatas; over 400 concertos, including The Four Seasons 1725 for violin and orchestra; over 40 operas; and much sacred music. His work was largely neglected until the 1930s.
Known as the “Red Priest”, because of his flaming hair color, Vivaldi spent much of his church career teaching music at a girl’s orphanage. He wrote for them and for himself.
