A synthetic silklike fabric.
Any of various shiny textile fibers and fabrics made from cellulose. It is produced by pressing whatever cellulose solution is used through very small holes and solidifying the resulting filaments. A common type is viscose, which consists of regenerated filaments of pure cellulose. Acetate and triacetate are kinds of rayon consisting of filaments of cellulose acetate and triacetate.
Rayon was originally made in the 1930s from the Douglas fir tree.
