arioso
Množina: ariosos
(Music) A short recitative that is melodic but is not an aria.
Music, songlike instrumental piece; solo pertaining to both aria and recitative
In music, a type of recitative (sung narration), of more lyrical than speechlike quality. Some composers use the arioso to initiate or conclude a recitative, such as Bach in his cantata Ein feste Burg/A Safe Stronghold 1724. It can also refer to a section or passage in an instrumental work, which imitates recitative, as in Beethovens Piano Sonata No. 31 of 1821.
