Industrial city (food processing, vehicles, textiles, engineering), and capital of Valladolid province, Spain;
It was the capital of Castile and Leon in the 14th–15th centuries, then of Spain until 1560. The Catholic monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella were married at Valladolid 1469. The explorer Christopher Columbus died here, and the home of the writer Miguel de Cervantes is preserved. It has a university founded 1346 and a cathedral 1595.
