Ablaut
IPA: / ˈaplˌa͡ʊt /Grammatik: der systemat. Wechsel (Alternieren) einer Reihe von Vokalen (Ablautreihe) in sonst ident. Morphemen (Stamm oder Ableitungssilben). Im Deutschen beschränkt sich der A. auf die Stammsilben u. ist das Hauptmerkmal der »starken« Verben (z. B. springen, sprang, gesprungen).
Bez. für den Vokalwechsel in der Stammsilbe indogerman. Sprachen bei der Flexion und in verwandten Wörtern: z.B. sprechen, sprach, gesprochen - Sprache, Spruch.
