The world's largest football stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, built 1950. It has a capacity of 175,000 but held a world record 199,854 spectators for the 1950 World Cup final between Brazil and Uruguay.
It has also been used for world championship boxing contests and hosted the 1954 world basketball championship. The local senior soccer teams of Rio use the stadium for their home matches. A feature of the ground is the 2.25 m/7 ft x 1.75 m/5 ft moat surrounding the pitch.
