Yellowstone National Park
IPA: / ˈjeloˌstoʊn ˈnæʃənəl ˈpɑːrk /Largest US nature reserve, established 1872, on a broad plateau in the Rocky Mountains, chiefly in NW Wyoming, but also in SW Montana and E Idaho; area 8,983 sq km/3,469 sq mi. The park contains more than 3,000 geysers and hot springs, including periodically erupting Old Faithful. It is one of the world's greatest wildlife refuges. Much of the park was ravaged by forest fires 1988.
John Colter, a trapper, explored the area in 1807.The first national park in the United States; located in Wyoming; famous for Old Faithful geyser and for buffalo and bears.
