The American wigeon A. americana, about 48 cm/19 in long, is found along both coasts in winter and breeds inland. Males have a white-capped head and a green eye stripe.
The Eurasian wigeon A. penelope has a dark head without eye stripe. It is a regular winter visitor along both North American coasts.
