Eisenstein
IPA: / aɪzənstaɪn /(1898-1948) Latvian-born Soviet film director. He pioneered film theory and introduced the use of montage (the juxtaposition of shots to create a particular effect) as a means of propaganda, as in The Battleship Potemkin 1925.
The Soviet dictator Stalin banned the second (and last) part of Eisensteins projected three-film epic Ivan the Terrible 194446. His other films include Strike 1925, October 1928, Que Viva Mexico! 193132, and Alexander Nevsky 1938.
