Music and dance of the Andalusian gypsies of S Spain, evolved from Andalusian and Arabic folk music. The cante (song) is sometimes performed as a solo but more often accompanied by guitar music and passionate improvised dance. Male flamenco dancers excel in powerful, rhythmic footwork while the female dancers place emphasis on the graceful and erotic movements of their hands and bodies.
