(1935-) US Minimalist sculptor. He is best known for his use of industrial materials. His Equivalent VIII 1976 (Tate Gallery, London), in which 120 bricks are stacked in two layers to form a mathematically devised rectangle, caused an outcry because it seemed to mock the traditional values of creativity and workmanship in art. Andre also pioneered earthworks.

Adopted name of Julia Elizabeth Wells (1935-) English-born US actress and singer. A child performer with her mother and stepfather in British music halls, she first appeared in the US in the Broadway production The Boy Friend 1954. She was the original Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway production of My Fair Lady 1956. In 1960 she appeared in Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot on Broadway. Her films include Mary Poppins 1964, The Sound of Music 1965, “10” 1979, and Victor/Victoria 1982.
