See ameba. Unicellular animal, composed of microscopic mass of naked protoplasm; lowest form of animal life.
Any of a number of one-celled organisms, especially of the genus Ameba, that move and feed by extensions of their colorless gelatinous protoplasm. They reproduce by binary fission. Some members of the genus Entamoeba are harmful parasites. See also amebiasis.
