(1860-1942) English artist. Influenced by the French Impressionists, he painted seaside scenes such as The Bridge, Walberswick 1887 and The Beach at Walberswick 1890 (both Tate Gallery, London). He became a leader (with Walter Sickert) of the English Impressionist movement and a founder-member of the New English Art Club.
