1st Baron of Trent (1864-1925) British soldier in World War I. Commanding the 4th Army, he was responsible for the main attack on the Somme 1916 and played a decisive part in stemming the German Spring Offensive and then the Allied offensive which ended the war.
In early 1918 he became British representative at the Council of Versailles but was hastily recalled to the front in March.

(1810-1895) English orientalist and political agent in Baghdad in the Ottoman Empire from 1844. He deciphered the Babylonian cuneiform and Old Persian scripts of Darius I’s trilingual inscription at Behistun, Persia, continued the excavation work of A H Layard, and published a History of Assyria 1852.
