City in Tuscany, Italy, 16 km/10 mi NW of Florence; Industries include steel, small arms, paper, pasta, and olive oil. Pistoia was the site of the Roman rebel Catiline's defeat 62 BC. It is surrounded by walls (1302) and has a 12th-century cathedral.
