(Greek mythology) Son of Zeus and Dana who slew the Gorgon Medusa (with the help of Athena and Hermes) and rescued Andromeda from a sea monster.
In Greek mythology, son of Zeus and Danaë. He slew the Gorgon Medusa and cut off her head —the reflection in his shield enabling him to approach her without being turned to stone. He then rescued and married Andromeda, and became king of Tiryns, using the Gorgon's head, set on his shield, to turn the tyrant Polydectes to stone.

Množina: Perseuses

In astronomy, a constellation of the northern hemisphere, near Cassiopeia, and represented as the mythological hero. The head of the decapitated Gorgon, Medusa, is marked by the variable star Algol. Perseus lies in the Milky Way and contains the Double Cluster, a twin cluster of stars. Every August the Perseid meteor shower radiates from its northern part.
A conspicuous constellation in the northern hemisphere; between Auriga and Cassiopeia and crossed by the Milky Way.
