The Hebrew patriarch who saved himself and his family and the animals by building an ark in which they survived 40 days and 40 nights of rain; the story of Noah and the flood is told in the Book of Genesis.
In the Old Testament, the son of Lamech and father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, who, according to God’s instructions, built a ship, the ark, so that he and his family and specimens of all existing animals might survive the Flood. There is also a Babylonian version of the tale, the Epic of Gilgamesh.
