1. One who, or that which, merges.
2. An absorption of one estate, or one contract, in another, or of a minor offense in a greater.
3. The joining of two companies or corporations, including the joining of their stock.
The linking of two or more companies, either by creating a new organization by consolidating the original companies or by absorption by one company of the others. Unlike a takeover, which is not always a voluntary fusion of the parties, a merger is the result of an agreement.
