Adopted name of Shirley MacLean Beatty (1934-)
US actress. A versatile performer, her films include Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble with Harry 1955 (her debut), The Apartment 1960, and Terms of Endearment 1983, for which she won an Academy Award.
MacLaine trained as a dancer and has played in musicals, comedy, and dramatic roles. Her many offscreen interests (politics, writing) have limited her film appearances. She is the sister of Warren Beatty.
