Location of Europe's largest pumped-storage hydroelectric scheme, completed 1984, in Gwynedd, N Wales. Six turbogenerators are involved, with a maximum output of some 1,880 megawatts. The working head of water for the station is 530 m/1,740 ft.
The main machine hall is twice as long as a football field and as high as a 16-story building.
