(1898-1943) US poet, novelist, and short-story writer. He won a Pulitzer Prize 1929 for his narrative poem of the Civil War, John Brown’s Body 1928. One of his short stories, ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster’, became a classic and was made into a play, an opera, and a film (All That Money Can Buy). He published more than 17 volumes of verse and prose.
