Abnormal absence or arrest of menstruation.
Absence or cessation of menstruation. In primary amenorrhea the menstrual periods fail to occur at puberty; causes may be genetic or hormonal. Secondary amenorrhea is the cessation of periods once established; causes include hormonal imbalance, depression or some traumatic life event, such as bereavement.
Absence or suppression of normal menstrual flow; SYN. amenorrhoea, amenia.
