Word processing program for various computers produced by WordPerfect Corp. It was first released 1982 and by 1987 was the dominant MS-DOS word processor, rapidly eclipsing the previous leader, WordStar, by offering many more features, despite having the reputation of being difficult to learn.
WordPerfect Corp was slow to release a version of WordPerfect for Windows, and when it did appear 1992 it suffered in comparison with Microsoft Word. Nevertheless, the rise of Windows led to development of the MS-DOS version being stopped 1994. In the same year, WordPerfect Corp was taken over by Novell.
