(1929-) English hairdresser. He was patronized by pop stars and models from the early 1950s. He created many new hairstyles, including the shape 1959, a layered cut tailored to the bone structure —a radical change from the beehive hairstyles of the 1950s. He stopped cutting 1974.
(1886-1967) English writer. He wrote the autobiography Memoirs of a Foxhunting Man 1928. His War Poems 1919 express the disillusionment of his generation.
Educated at Cambridge, Sassoon enlisted in the army 1915, serving in France and Palestine. He published many volumes of poetry and three volumes of childhood autobiography, The Old Century and Seven More Years 1938, The Weald of Youth 1942, and Siegfried’s Journey 1945. He wrote a biography of the novelist George Meredith 1948 and published Collected Poems 1961.
