(Georgina) (1830-1894) English poet. She was the sister of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and a devout High Anglican (see Oxford movement). Her verse includes Goblin Market and Other Poems 1862 and expresses unfulfilled spiritual yearning and frustrated love. She was a skillful technician and made use of irregular rhyme and line length.
(1828-1882) English painter and poet. He was a founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (PRB) 1848. As well as romantic medieval scenes, he produced many idealized portraits of women, including the spiritual Beata Beatrix 1864. His verse includes ‘The Blessed Damozel’ 1850. His sister was the poet Christina Rossetti.
Rossetti was a friend of the critic Ruskin, who helped establish his reputation as a painter, and of William Morris and his wife Jane, who became Rossetti's lover and the subject of much of his work.
