(1893-1986) French-born US designer. His work includes the S-I steam engine 1937, the Lucky Strike cigarette package, the Silversides Greyhound bus 194054, and the Avanti Studebaker automobile 1962.
Loewy began as a fashion illustrator, and became one of the first designers to work as a freelance consultant, as well as the most famous. Most of his work was done by technical support staff—Loewy was a stylist rather than an engineering draftsman.
