history
Haifa was taken by the crusaders 1100, Napoleon 1799, and Egypt 1839. It was surrendered by Egypt to Turkey 1840. Occupied by the British 1918, it became part of mandated Palestine 1922. The Arabs surrendered to Israeli rule during the Arab–Israeli War 1948–49.
