(1877-1960) US illustrator. His World War I recruiting poster “I want You”, features a haggard image of Uncle Sam modeled on Flagg himself.
In addition to collections of humor writing, Flagg wrote numerous plays and an autobiography, Roses and Buckshot 1946. Born in Pelham Manor, New York, Flagg trained at the Art Students League in New York and at private studios in Paris and London. In his teens he contributed illustrations to national magazines; after his return from Europe he became a portraitist.
