(1943-) Australian novelist. His works include Bliss 1981, Illywhacker (Australian slang for “con man”) 1985, and Oscar and Lucinda 1988, which won the Booker Prize. The Tax Inspector 1991 is set in modern-day Sydney, and depicts an eccentric Greek family under investigation for tax fraud.
(1690-1743) English poet and musician. He is remembered for the song ‘Sally in Our Alley’. ‘God Save the King’ (both words and music) has also been attributed to him.
